Former Teignmouth Chippie Is No Lightweight
Former Teignmouth chippie, Ben Day, is no lightweight.
He's taking the boxing world by storm.
He's been voted among the UK's top five personal trainers.
He's just built - and opened - his "first " gym in the centre of London.
And he's  found a new niche in the training market after developing a new work-pad system, Ultra Mitts, that looks set to become a knock-out success both in and out of the ring.

No other trainer in the UK is using the system which he has just submitted to the British Boxing Board of Control for accreditation (CLICK here to see Ben and the Ultra Mitts system in action).

While this triple whammy would be success enough for most people,  Ben "Dynamite Kid" Day aims to achieve more.
His dream is to help as many others as he can to turn their lives around through the sport of boxing.
It is a sport that Ben got into "late" and it  "saved my life", he told The Teignmo'thian.
Headed "down the wrong path" in life,  boxing gave him "focus and direction" and he discovered he had talent.
He continued to work full-time as a carpenter while he pursued a career in professional boxing and one of the biggest sacrifices he had to make was time with his four nieces.
But the "tremendous support and drive" from his sister Jo has helped him to achieve success as well as the love of  his long-time girlfriend who has "stood by me through thick and thin and has worked with me to achieve my dream".
He told The Teignmo'thian: "It's been very hard, trust me.
"Nothing came easy being up here in London on my own.
"I nearly came back twice but what would I have done in Teignmouth?"
Ben hopes that his success will show others that they can turn their lives around no matter what their background.
"It requires discipline, stamina, dedication and focus but you must set goals," he said.
"I have come from a small seaside town in Devon and have achieved my dream of opening a gym in Central London, hopefully the first of many across the country."
He regularly trains celebrities, including Razorlight's Johnny Borrell, a band that recently toured with Teignmouth rockers, Muse.
He has met a number of his idols, including Ricky Hatton, David Haye, Barry McGuigan, Karl Froch and Mike Tyson.
"Meeting these boxing legends has spurred me onto become successful," , added Ben, who  has featured in news reports for BBC1 and Channel 5, done interviews for Radio 1, television advets for ITV and an episode of BBC3's The Real Hustle.
While rockers Muse have put Teignmouth on the map with music, Ben is really packing a punch to its reputation for producing boxing talent.
He went to school in Teignmouth with Muse's bass guitarist, Chris Wolstenholme, but he lived round the corner from the Tooley family who ran a training ring in the town centre and launched some hard-hitting talent into the world of professional boxing.
Those heady days of boxing success, it would appear, are far from over with Ben "Dynamite Kid" Day achieving such success in the world of professional and white-collar boxing.
His boxing career may be on hold while he establishes the gym he built in London using his own carpentry skills, but he still's knocking out any competition outside the ring.

WOW...What an article...What a lad...What an achievement!

Im proud to say ive known Ben (Benjamin Button... As he's so active for his age haha) for a long while know, i was there the first time he walked into my gym for a session. I'll be honest i thought i had a task on my hands. But this lad just goes to show what hard work and dedication can do for anyone, the hunger in this guys belly, the desire to achieve what he wants, this lad is on he's way to the top. I have seen the transformations he has been through and i am aware of the great support given to him by he's sister. Ben has had to make so many sacrifices over the years, one of which was leaving he's home town and nieces to travel to london in search of a dream. Bare in mind London is hard to make anything happen at the best of times. But this doesnt stop here, i'm aware of he's future plans and aspirations and will continue to support him through all he does. As he keeps reminding me he's taking over the UNIVERSE.

RINGTONE GYM ...... ULTRAMITTS PADWORK SPECIALSTS......GOING GLOBAL!!!

What a story.  Maybe we could have a huge boxing event in the town.  Muse did a home gig.
