Local Projects Get Cash Boosts
Bishopsteignton Parish Council is to be offered land at village's Horns Park for £1.
Local worthy causes are to get a cash boost of more than £1,000 thanks to the community fund of councillors.
Teign Choral Society is being given a cash boost to the tune of £250 for its Christmas concert with Teignmouth Hospital.
The money is being contributed from the district council's community fund at the request of Councillor Sylvia Russell.
Other local projects to benefit from the community fund which district councillors have a share of for worthy causes on their doorsteps include Shaldon Tourism which is getting £150 at the request of Councillor Chris Clarance for the design and production of an information booklet about the village.
And a larger cash boost, of £750, is being given to Teign Heritage for a Teign Community Room and Centre to create a ceramic mosaic, at the request of Councillor David Weekes.
The councillors' community fund is a resource that was in danger earlier this year when the budget was being discussed but it was decided that the fund should be kept and not reduced.
Each district councillor gets to keep the set amount they are allowed to help groups who may not qualify for the Make It Happen £28,000 pot of small grants, allowing funding without any need for formal agreements.
The requests will be put before next month's meeting of the district council's Executive for approval.
Bishopsteignton Parish Council is to be offered land at village's Horns Park for £1.
The title is being transferred by Teignbridge District Council as part of its disposal of assets at less than best policy.
The move is set to be rubber stamped by the district council's Executive in September,
The land was earmarked for affordable housing but that plan is now on hold pending the outcome of a Village Green application.
The proposal is in the form of a report to the Executive by the portfolio holder for resources and budget, council leader Councillor Alan Connett and acting service lead for economy and regeneration Tony Watson.
The report proposes that the land will be restricted by covenant to existing use as a public open space although any future change of use will be subject to a claw back provision.
